Average Rating:
Verizon DSL and FIOS
Web Page: www.verizon.com
Technology: DSL or Fiber Optics (FIOS)
DSL
Pros: Entry level DSL is relatively cheap compared to dial up. Often there are more speed and price options with DSL than with cable broadband.
Cons: Your house must be within 3 miles of a distribution point. If you are at the far ends of this limit you will be limited in the speeds available to you.
Summary: Verizon uses regular phone lines or new fiber optic technology to provide two-way, always-on, high-speed internet access.
FIOS
Pros: FIOS will be much faster than DSL and will open up the ability to receive many more communications options from the telephone company.
Cons: Must bring fiber optic lines to the home. Verizon is in the early stages of laying fiber. Check their website to see if it is available in your area.
Summary: Verizon uses regular phone lines or new fiber optic technology to provide two-way, always-on, high-speed internet access. FIOS will open up the possibility of receiving television services that compete with cable and satelite.
