Research in Motion just announced a sleek new Blackberry device they're calling the Pearl. (aka the 8100). This new device is much smaller than the current models and packs a lot of features.

The new device includes all the current features that business people love about Blackberries like wireless email, calendar, bluetooth, and web browsing and throws in some consumer friendly features like a 1.3 megapixel camera, multimedia player, instant messaging and expandable memory. It also includes voice activated dialing, a feature that I have been waiting for on the Blackberry for some time.

Blackberry Pearl 8100

They have removed the familiar thumbwheel from the side and replaced it with a trackwheel in the center of the device. This trackwheel resembles a pearl, hence the name. Due to its small size, they are going with the compressed SureType(tm) keyboard first introduced with the 7100 series.

The device will be offered first in the USA by T-Mobile and by Rogers in Canada. However you can expect that many carriers will be offering the Pearl within the next few months after the exclusivity agreements run out.
